It’s been a long time coming for the fans of the PSP but it looks like the stars are finally aligning into the right formation for the gamers and their new PSP 3000. There are a lot of new things for the latest version of the PSP to be excited about and I will talk about a few of them here but the first thing and perhaps the most exciting bit of news for the PSP came with the latest firmware update to 5.00. The PSP will now have access to the to the Playstation Store which will most likely change the entire gaming landscape for the handheld market. The access to the store gives game developers on every level an opportunity to build a fresh new PSP title from the ground up with out the added cost of the UMD. New PSP games right to digital download is where this is headed and will make 2009 a banner year for games on the PSP. Something PSP fans have been waiting on since the original version of the PSP.
The reviews are coming in for the PSP 3000 and the general consensus has been that this is one kick ass peice of gaming hardware with a butt load of features to have any gamer drooling. Some of the key features to be excited about other than the access to the Playstation Store. The processor has been freed and it now runs on 333MHZ, support for 16GB memory sticks now, a peripheral camera, TV-out, a web browser, rss reader support, playback for WMA files plus Skype and Youtube support. Also let us not forget the sweet anti glare crystal clear screen which has shown plenty of comparison shots of the improved quality over the PSP 2000.
All those hardware features plus the access to digital downloads from the Playstation store have really lined up 2009 to be a high water mark for the PSP. Also Sony appears to be finally stepping up and leading the pack for developers like the stand alone games God of War, Daxter, Crisis Core and Portable Ops plus the upcoming Little Big Planet (for the PSP, it’s coming!) and Resistance: Retribution – 2009 will ROCK!

I agree the PSP3000 sounds good. It has made me want to buy one and buy a 16GB memory stick and use the system for strictly downloaded movies and games, of course purchased. No UMD’s to carry around, just the PSP. Faster load times for games (since it is on the memory stick) and easy portable movie watching. My only problem is that the PSP doesn’t have enough 3rd party games on the PS Store, and I really want to buy a Need For Speed game and a sports game so that I have a variety of games. Other than that, i may just buy this new PSP and a 16GB memory stick.

I agree Aaron, I will be picking up the new PSP 3000 this holiday season as well. Now that there is direct access to the PS Store I have great hope for a lot more 3rd party games to be coming to direct download. Keepn my fingers crossed!
